Each of the Skaneateles indoor track and field teams would find themselves in eighth place when Saturday’s morning session of the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena had concluded.
Whether it was 33 points from the girls Lakers or 26 points from the boys Lakers, each of them would trail a winning effort from Baldwinsville, who swept the two events as West Genesee (boys) and Fayetteville-Manlius (girls) finished second in their respective divisions.
Mia Grasso went 42.77 seconds in the 300-meter dash, trailing only B’ville’s Karen Ekure, who won in 42.03 seconds. And in the high jump, Grasso was third, clearing 5 feet, just one inch behind the Bees’ Adrianna Straughter.
Maddie Peterson went 7.79 seconds in the girls 55-meter dash and took third place, not far from the winning 7.67 by Corcoran’s Ka’Nijah McLaurin as Peterson got ninth place in the triple jump.
Edan Howard, with a weight throw of 28 feet 3 inches, earned fourth place. Skaneateles won its heat in the girls 4×400 relay and was fifth overall as Jessica Patalino, Melissa Biver, Isabella Capozza and Sarah Euto finished in 4:44.60. Bella Capozza also was seventh in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.19 seconds.
Natalie Condon got to eighth place in the 3,000-meter run in 11:36.19, with Georgia McSwain 12th. Condon also was eighth in the 600-meter run (1:52.09) as Elyse Osmun got ninth place in the 1,000-meter run in 3:35.31 and Nicole DeRosa was ninth (5:47.07) in the 1,500-meter run.
In the boys Kirschenheiter meet, Skaneateles got its best finish from Brahm Malcolm, who went through the 55 hurdles in 8.51 seconds as B’ville’s Nate Jaquint won in 8.21 seconds. Malcolm added a seventh-place finish in the long jump, going 18’1 3/4″.
Luke Rathgeb rose to fourth place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:04.86, also pairing with Caleb Bender, Sam McClintic and Matt Persampieri to finish sixth in the 4×800 relay in 9;40.40. Ryan Willcox rose to fourth place in the high jump, clearing 5’6″.
In the 4×200, Patrick Hackler, John Ryan, Cross Bianchi and Jacob Nesbitt finished fifth in 1:42.62. The Lakers were 11th in the 4×400 in 4:24.12 as Willcox, Connor Gell, Charlie Vreeland and Lawrence Gray took part.
Tyler Priest had an eighth-place weight throw of 35 feet. Hackler needed exactly 1:37 for 10th place in the 600. Bender took 11th place in the 1,000, with Bianchi 12th in the 55 sprint. McClintic finished 14th in the mile.
