Building upon a season-opening win over Homer on Dec. 1, the East Syracuse Minoa girls bowling team moved to 2-0 last Tuesday afternoon at Strike-N-Spare Lanes when it shut out the Chittenango Bears 3-0.
Haley Youker began to find her top form for the girls Spartans, shooting a 605 series that included a high game of 238. America Carhart shot a 223 game on her way to a 564 set as Elizabeth D’Agostino had a 201 during her 509 series. Rachel Deyett had a 452 series and Stephanie Malson posted a three-game total of 426.
Meanwhile, the ESM boys team, who lost its opener to Homer, rebounded to blank Chittenango by that same 3-0 margin, led by Dan Marriott’s three-game total of 673 that included a 258 high game. Sean Timmons, with a 644 series and 231 high game, wasn’t far behind as Hunter Borkowski had a 606 series (222 high game) and Mike Sicilia’s 192 led to a 548 set.
A day later, the ESM girls made it back-to-back wins, blanking Altmar-Parish-Willamstown 3-0, again with big performances from Youker, who shot a 669 series that included a 258 high game, and Carhart, whose 642 series included a 235 high game. Kathleen Bayly added a 426 set. In the boys Spartans’ 3-0 sweep of the Rebels, Borkowski was nearly perfect in a 275 game on his way to a 702 series.
In its season opener, Fayetteville-Manlius dropped a 3-0 decision to Cicero-North Syracuse at Green Lakes Bowl. John Buonfiglio again led the Hornets, shooting a 630 series with a 247 high game. Isaac Blanford’s 194 game led to a 547 set as Jackson Arment shot a 210 during his 509 series. The winning Northstars got a 681 series from Josh Cloute and a 656 series from Zach Emm that featured a 248 high game.
On Thursday, against Liverpool at Flamingo Bowl, F-M’s boys team again could not get on the board in a 3-0 defeat. Blanford managed a 596 series that included a 224 high game. The Warriors’ Austin Dearborn had 10 straight strikes during a 288 game in his 690 series. F-M’s girls lost, 3-0, to Liverpool, as Dailyn McCarthy led the Warriors with a 557 series and high game of 210.
Bishop Grimes had started the week by running into Auburn last Monday afternoon, taking a pair of 3-0 defeats to the Maroons.
Zach Schell did manage a 221 game for the boys Cobras, while Alex Moran shot a 178 game and Matt Vonden Steinen added a high game of 172. However, four different Auburn bowlers shot at least one 200 game, with Jonathan Wilkes shooting a 621 serises and T.J. O’Donnell posting a 617 series, each of them with matching top games of 225.
In the girls match, Samantha Houck recorded Grimes’ high game of 145, while Grace Lambrych had a 129 and Catherine Samara recorded a 127. This was far from Auburn’s top scores as Kaylee Hodson rolled a 232 game in front of Katie Feocco (166 high game) and Hanna Ryan (162 high game).
Then, against Chittenango on Wednesday, the Grimes girls team took a 2-1 defeat to the Bears, even though Houck earned a 179 game and 422 series, both tops among individuals and Samara improved to a 369 series.
However, the boys Cobras found the win column, topping Chittenango 3-0. Schell’s 178 game led to a 466 series, topping the 450 put up by the Bears’ Tyler Malcolm as Mitch Collins shot a 365 series and Alex McDonald added a 323 series.
Christian Brothers Academy’s girls bowling team faced Cortland on Thursday afternoon and lost, 3-0, with no one able to keep up with the Purple Tigers’ Liz Minnard, whose 557 series included a 223 high game.
On the Brothers’ side, Olivia Penoyer led with a 406 series and 175 high game. Julieta Pompo had a 397 series, with Olivia Ojugbeli adding a 373 series and Claire Jeschke recording a 357 set.
