With its brutal stretch of nine games in 15 days finally behind them, the Skaneateles boys soccer team could now enjoy a prolonged break got them closer to another Section III Class B title defense.
Following an 0-2-1 stretch that included a Sept. 28 overtime defeat to Westhill, the Lakers had started to recover by sweeping two Buffalo-are foes, St. Francis and Canisius, in the Finger Lakes Classic, and would continue to find comfort on the friendly turf at Hyatt Stadium.
Skaneateles took on Fulton Tuesday night, and put together a 2-0 shutout of the Red Raiders, notching one goal in each half and leaving the rest to a defense that earned its third consecutive shutout.
Fulton got just two direct shots at Luke Peterson, far from enough to really threaten him. Meanwhile, the Lakers broke through as Tristan Custer and Justin McClanahan put home the goals.
And here the Lakers could rest, a full week before it takes on Chittenango next Tuesday and hosts Jordan-Elbridge Thursday night, the last two games of the regular season as Skaneateles looks to improve upon its 7-3-3 mark and learns Sunday where it will start the sectional tournament.
