Skaneateles Rod and Gun Club News

While we are not participating in the Central New York Trap League this year due to COVID-19, we are holding trap practice opportunities every Monday and Thursday from 3:30 until about 7 p.m. weather permitting. Both the pistol barn and the outdoor range are available for member use. The Saturday morning rifle matches have also resumed. All of these activities are held with the understanding that socisl distancing is required.
Rifle: On Saturday, June. 6, 2020, at 0900, five rifle shooters met at our range to fire the regular weekly rifle match. The temperature was 68 and 72% humidity with partly cloudy skies and a very light breeze. It was 64 with 76% humidity and mostly sunny by the end. Course of fire is 10 shots slow fire prone, 10 shots rapid fire prone, 10 shots slow fire standing.
The following fired rifles that are used in the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) course of fire and are in the medal score category: High Score was Dave Spearing. He had a CMP silver medal score. He fired a .30-40 Krag, US M1898 and scored 95+97-1X+85=277-1X. Mike Gentile fired a .30 cal. M1 Garand and scored 93-2X’s+77-1X+61=231-3X’s.
The following fired other rifles with open sights: High Score was Chuck Chernoff. He fired a .22 cal. Rimfire Model 45 French military trainer and scored 88+93+79=260. Mark Walker fired a .223 cal. and scored 90-1X+96+56-1X=242-2X’s.
The following fired other rifles with scopes: High Score was Chuck Cargile. He fired a .17 cal. Rimfire with a scope and scored 100-1X+100-6X’s+57=257-7X’s.
Rifle: On Saturday, June. 13, 2020, at 0900, five rifle shooters met at our range to fire the regular weekly rifle match. The temperature was 48 and 65% humidity with gray overcast skies and a cool stiff breeze. It was 55 with 60% humidity by the end. Course of fire is 10 shots slow fire prone, 10 shots rapid fire prone, 10 shots slow fire standing.
The following fired rifles that are used in the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) course of fire and are in the medal score category: High Score was Dave Spearing. He fired a .303 cal. No.4 MK1 British Enfield and scored 82+94-2X’s+72=248-2X’s. Mike Gentile fired a 6.5X52 M91 Italian Carcano and scored 68+60-1X+55=183-1X.
The following fired other rifles with open sights: High Score was Joe Dwyer. He fired a .22 cal. Rimfire and scored 96-2X’s+91-2X’s+58-1X=245-5X’s.
The following fired other rifles with scopes: High Score was John Bay. He fired a .243 Cal. Savage with a scope and scored 99-5X’s+95-1X +87-1X=281-7X’s. Chuck Chernoff fired a .22 Cal. Rimfire with a scope and scored 96-1X+92-2X’s +70=258-3X’s.
Rifle: On Saturday, June. 20, 2020, at 0900, six rifle shooters met at our range to fire the regular weekly rifle match. The temperature was 69 and 77% humidity with bright sunny skies and a very light breeze in the treetops. It was 81 with 56% humidity by the end. Course of fire is 10 shots slow fire prone, 10 shots rapid fire prone, 10 shots slow fire standing.
The following fired rifles that are used in the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) course of fire and are in the medal score category: High Score was Dave Spearing. He had a CMP gold medal score. He fired a 6.5X55 Swedish Mauser and scored 100-7X’s+95-1X+87=282-8X’s..
The following fired other rifles with open sights: High Score was Chuck Chernoff. He fired a .22 Cal. Rimfire and scored 91+95-2X’s +84=270-3X’s. Mike Gentile fired a .223 cal. and scored 95-1X+87+59-1X=241-2X’s. Joe Dwyer fired a .22 cal. Rimfire K98 Mauser Trainer and scored 87-1X+92+56-1X=235-2X’s. John Bay fired a .22 Cal. Rimfire and scored 91+77-1X +65-1X=233-2X’s.
The following fired other rifles with scopes: High Score was Chuck Carcile. He fired a .17 cal. Rimfire with a scope and scored 99-2X’s+99-4X’s+54=252-6X’s.
