B’ville tennis edges West Genny, 4-3

The hard work for the Baldwinsville boys tennis team did not abate during the April school break – rather, it intensified.

That work culminated in a tremendous battle between the Bees and West Genesee last Wednesday afternoon, where B’ville did enough to fend off the Wildcats and prevail bya 4-3 margin.

Of the four doubles matches, three of them went to three sets, and B’ville claimed two of them. Mason Soeder and Scott Ferrari got past James Plunkett and Pat Copeland 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, while Isaiah Demoski and Ryan Shirk rallied for the clinching point in a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Stefan Atanasov and John Northrop.

In yet another three-set match, Chris Alfonso and Beckett Plumley led early, but fell to Ryan Joyce and Brandon Hale 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, but Nick Walker and Dan Watkins made up for it in a big way, roaring past Alex Argiro and Jimmy Harter 6-1, 6-2.

Up in singles action, WG won two of the three matches. B’ville saw Alex Shaban take a 6-0, 6-0 defeat to Connor McGuigan and David Rush fall to Nick Bentley 6-2, 6-3, but Eric Herman got the Bees on the board with his own 6-2, 6-3 win over Joey Francisco.

Two days earlier, B’ville had defeated Syracuse East 6-1, but that had mostly come due to forfeits. The Bees yielded a full roster, meaning that it got two singles points (to David Rush and Beckett Plumley) and one doubles point (to Alfonso and Eric Herrmann) without resistance.

In first singles, Alex Shaban blanked Robert Collier in the first set but still lost a 6-0, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5 decision), but in doubles, Nick Walker and Dan Watkins beat Richy Llanos and Nick Lozaponi 6-2, 6-1, with Scott Ferrari and Mason Soeder getting a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over  Muhialdain Muhialdain and John Hso.
