By the small margin of two points, the Fayetteville-Manlius indoor track and field teams missed out on a sweep of the afternoon session of Wednesday’s Oscar B. Jensen Holiday Relays at SRC Arena.
In the second CNY Indoor Track Association meet of the season, F-M took part in that same afternoon session with Christian Brothers Academy and East Syracuse Minoa, part of a format where times, distances and heights were added up by two athletes per event. No four-runner relays were held.
F-M’s girls had 84 points, comfortably ahead of runner-up Baldwinsville (62 points), while CBA was seventh with 23 points. But in the boys meet, F-M’s total of 64 points was just behind B’ville’s 66 points as CBA rose to fourth place with 33 points and ESM (24 points) was eighth.
For the girls Hornets, Kaitlyn Neal and Samantha Levy went 1-2 in the mile relay, combining for a winning time of 10 minutes, 11.28 seconds as Neal won the individual race in 4:55.34. Much later, Reilly Madsen won the 3,000-meter run in 11:20.49 as she and Alex Villalba got the team title in 22:42.92.
Rebecca Walters and Jenna Farrell were victorious in the 800-meter run in 4:54.67, where CBA’s Olivia Morganti and Megan Grabor (5:13.67) were fourth. Then Palmer Madsen (3:12.92) and Claire Walters (3:14.21) went 1-2 in the 1,000-meter run, with ESM’s Natalie Marra and Julia Schug fourth in a combined 6:59.16.
In field events, F-M had Sophia Jones and Grace Hausladen get third place in the shot put, with two combined throws of 49 feet. Sydney O’Dell, second in the individual high jump by clearing 4’10”, managed third-place points all by herself.
Kiana Ferguson won the 55-meter dash for CBA in 7.65 seconds over F-M’s Meaghan Howe (7.72 seconds), with Ferguson and Anna Langlois second (15.80 seconds) to Skaneateles (15.74 seconds) in the team event and Howe and Cady Barns third in 15.83 seconds. The Hornets also finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles in 21.34 seconds and fifth in the high jump, where ESM’s Mia Montgomery won the individual event by going 35’11”, two feet ahead of the field.
CBA did better in the 300-meter dash, where Anna Schug won the individual race in 42.63 seconds and, with Claire Bargabos, posted 1:27.76 to beat F-M’s duo of Howe and Barns, who were second in 1:30.17.
The Hornets saw Sophie Ryan and Phoebe White finish second (3:29.60) to West Genesee (3:28.14) in the 600-meter run, while Christy Berge’ and Susan Bansbach were third in the 500-meter run in 2:54.03 as CBA (3:01.91) was sixth.
Moving to the boys meet, F-M got another mile relay win when Patrick Perry posted 4;33.15 to top individuals as he and Bryan Geehrer had a top total time of 9:17.48, with ESM fifth in 10;37.61. Max Perry and Ben Otis won the 3,200-meter run in 21;23.21 over B’ville (22:03.93) and the field.
In the much shorter 55 sprint, F-M prevailed when Peyton Burnett and Armando Adrian finished in 14.28 seconds to Mexico’s 14.46, while CBA (14.79 seconds) was fifth. To add more variety, Chibu Ezidegwu and Connor Florczyk won the triple jump with combined attempts of 79’3 ½”, well clear of the field.
CBA rose to a victory in the 800 when Nikhil Reddy claimed the individual race in 2:06.21 as he and Dominic Morganti won the team event in 4:22.61 to Auburn’s 4:28.81, while F-M settled for sixth place.
Reddy and Brendan Keeney swept the top two spots in the 500 as their time of 2:26.97 beat Mexico (2:31.19), while the Hornets were sixth. Then Tom SanGiacomo won the 300 sprint in 37.30 seconds as he and Pat Carey were third (1:18.59) on the team side.
ESM won the boys high jump, where Isaiah Brooks and Connor Harrigan cleared 11’2” between them, the only pair to do so in t the session as F-M’s Chibu Ezidegwu cleared 6 feet to lead all individuals. Carey cleared 5’8” to give CBA third-place points, while the Hornets’ Vincent Perry topped 10’6” in the pole vault to tie for second.
In the 1,00, the Spartans’ Matt Young prevailed in 2:46.36 as he and Jared Henry, in 5:39.10, turned back a field that included F-M’s Sean Donlon and Jack Boatman, who were third in 5:44.53. The Spartans’ Isaiah Brooks was second (8.33 seconds) and Carey fourth (8.70 seconds) in the 55 hurdles, with Brooks and Dan Raulli getting fifth-place points.
Long before this, Jamesville-DeWitt took part in the morning session of the Jensen Relays and, with 75 points, nearly won the girls event, just one point behind Cicero-North Syracuse’s 76 points as the Red Rams took sixth place out of 16 boys teams with 30 points and C-NS easily won here.
Alexandria Payne won the individual 55 hurdles in 8.73 seconds as she and Allish McDevitt were second (19.98 seconds) to Homer (19.27) on the team side. Then, in the 55 sprint, Payne won again, in 7.67 seconds to edge Phoenix’s Emilie Hilliard (7.67 seconds), with Mackenzie Maxam third in 7.88 seconds that led to a Red Rams victory in 15.55 seconds to the Firebirds’ 15.70.
To top off her day, Payne delivered a third victory in the high jump, clearing 5’1”, which by itself was good for first-place points as Charlotte Matzal (Faith Heritage) and Megan Milazzo (Liverpool) cleared 5 feet to tie for second.
Hannah Butler parlayed a victory in the 1,000 in 3:12.53 into a team win when she and Abigail Leavitt went 6:48.11 to edge out Jordan-Elbridge (6:48.l5) by inches. Earlier, Butler and Sophia Vinciguerra were second (11:15.13) to Liverpool (10:57.37) in the mile relay.
Elena Haarer needed 1:45.75 to win the 600, joining Vinciguerra to get second place in 3:38.91 to C-NS’s 3:36.64, a two-point difference in a meet decided by a single point, while Alisa Salbert and Abby Palin were second (25:00.65) to the Northstars (23:31.69) in the 3,000.
Mariah Williams and Jessica Pace were third in the shot put with throws of exactly 55 feet. Ally Street and Ayla Erwin took fourth in the 800, with Madelyn Spina and Kailee Philleo sixth in the 500. Maxam and McDevitt were fifth in the triple jump, going 60’8” between them.
In the boys meet, J-D won the 55 hurdles, where Nolan Roosa (third) and Alex Carbacio (fourth) posted 17.76 seconds, beating out Phoenix (18.62 seconds) by nearly a second. Alex Le cleared 10 feet in the pole vault and was second to Central Squre’s Joe Weaver, who won with 12’6”.
Roosa and Jan Ramirez were third in the high jump, clearing 11’2” between them. J-D also finished fifth in the 55 sprint and sixth in the boys mile relay and 500, with Evan Baxter and Henry Middleton fifth in the shot put (76’5”).
