Farm rescue organization raises funds to care for vulnerable animals
On Oct. 16, The Haven at Skanda will hold a fundraising event at the historic mansion, the Hillcrest Jephson Estate, in Cazenovia to raise funds as they prepare to care for the region’s most vulnerable animals this winter. The fundraiser will feature a video of The Haven at Skanda filmed by Jane Goodall filmmaker Bill Wallauer and his wife, Kristin Mosher, who have visited The Haven several times and will be present at the event to share their footage.
The Hillcrest Jephson Estate was built by the Davis Baking Powder family in the 1800s and has been restored by owner Linda Osborne, who offers the estate to a select few nonprofit organizations every year for fundraisers which afford the public a rare chance to freely tour the mansion.
This fundraiser is called “The Generosity of Love,” and is dedicated to “Celebrating What Is Possible When Animals are Loved.” The event will feature live music by the Colgate University Chamber Ensemble, refreshments by Loka Leaf Tea Shop, wine, beer and a silent auction with items donated by Cazenovia Artisans, Cazenovia Jewelers and featuring a weekend stay at the Jephson Estate Carriage House.
Tickets to the fundraiser are $75, and proceeds go directly towards animal care, as The Haven is an all-volunteer organization. Tickets can be purchased online at thehavenatskanda.org/generosity-of-love.
The Haven at Skanda is the new nonprofit organization created at Skanda, the horse farm that is known for taking in the starving Onondaga rescue ponies in the winter of 2013. Since that initial rescue, Skanda has expanded to care for rescued farm animals and endangered species, in response to a community need. For more information, visit thehavenatskanda.org.
