The Liverpool Public Library will be open and ready for all patrons to get their fill of knowledge within our four walls at 310 Tulip St. in the lovely village of Liverpool the day after Thanksgiving.
In fact, the LPL will be a fine Black Friday location to work off whatever it is you’ll be dining on for the holiday. And stock up on some holiday bargains, too.
The doors will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25.
To mark the occasion, the library will hold a one-day-only Used Book Sale in the Carman Community Room and the lobby. Expect many cookbooks and holiday-appropriate books available. Prices will start at $2 and go down from there. And the really big deal is that everything is BOGO, as in Buy One, Get One (free). More book, CD and DVD bargains may be announced as Black Friday approaches. We don’t want the lines to start now, do we?
And those of you who may have procrastinated bringing back things you’ve borrowed a while ago may find Black Friday a “fine” day to get that burden lifted as well. Anybody who pays their overdue charges in full that day will get them reduced by 50 percent. This applies to overdue fines accrued at the LPL only and does not apply to fees for lost or damaged books or collection processes.
There are other ways using the LPL’s services can help you save money as the holidays approach.
Cardholders have access to Consumer Reports via LPL.org for free. And the popular rating collective’s 2016 Holiday Gift Guide is ready and waiting. One of the featured clicks there is “Top 10 Black Friday Shopping Tips for 2016.”
Holiday music is available for download free to cardholders via the Freegal service, including “A Pentatonix Christmas.” I’ve loved that a cappella group since they won NBC’s “The Sing-Off” competition in 2011, and then I caught them live at The Westcott Theater on an ensuing tour. Also available as part of the five free MP3 downloads per week are holiday offerings from Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson and Bing Crosby. Shop for them at other sites online and they’ll go for $1.29 per song.
Using our site’s Zinio, cardholders can download for free many popular magazines, including Cooks Illustrated, Living, Organic Life, Taste of Home, Do It Yourself, Entertain Decorate Celebrate, Food Network and HGTV.
Those are sure to be chock full of holiday entertaining and decorating ideas.
