The North Syracuse Central School District community is invited to attend a special event for a very good cause. At 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, Cicero-North Syracuse High School is hosting an “Empty Bowls” dinner to benefit the Food Bank of Central New York. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased pre-sale by calling Diane Clancy at 218-4002. A limited number of tickets will also be available the night of the dinner.
C-NS Art Teacher Amy Haven took interest in the Empty Bowls project last spring and worked hard to bring the event to the North Syracuse Central School District. She thought it would be a unique way to engage her own students by using their creative abilities for a good cause.
“I wanted to bring this event to our community to show students art is a great vehicle to connect with people and make an impact on their lives,” Haven said.
Students throughout the NSCSD have been involved in bringing the event to fruition. C-NS students created the bowls over the summer and elementary and middle school students throughout the district have been helping Haven glaze and decorate the bowls. She also hosted a workshop during the Nov. 8 Superintendent’s Conference Day so that art teachers could help decorate bowls for the dinner.
Students from Cicero-North Syracuse High School and Gillette Road Middle School Family and Consumer Science classes will be assisting with the food service portion of the Empty Bowls event at C-NS. Food for the evening’s dinner is generously being donated by Santangelo’s and Avicolli’s restaruants.
