To the editor:
The town of Lysander has an important vote on the ballot on Nov. 8. It is for the position of Lysander town clerk.
One of the candidates running for Lysander town clerk is Kevin Rode. Kevin has regularly attended Lysander town board meetings and work sessions for the past five years. He is well versed in town issues, as well as the workings of our town government and the many requirements of its operations. Kevin is the most qualified candidate to serve as Lysander town clerk.
As a registered Republican and a member of the Lysander Republican Committee, Kevin sought the endorsement of the committee to run as the Republican candidate for Lysander town clerk. He followed the protocol that had been set forth by the committee with the honest expectation that they would follow it as well. Unfortunately, the Onondaga County Republican Committee chairman and secretary injected themselves into and altered the local process by attending the meeting at which the selection was to take place. They directed the local committee toward a decision that was made outside of Lysander.
Regrettably, this manipulation of ”choice” has become a pattern in politics that we recognize all too well and that has the potential to affect us significantly at the local level. We need to be represented in local government by individuals that understand our issues and are dedicated to serving the people, not just the party.
Kevin Rode understands and exemplifies this. As a lifetime resident of Lysander, he wants to serve his community as Lysander town clerk with honesty and integrity, and a dedication to providing the quality of services that our town deserves. His familiarity with and knowledge of town law and town board meetings will make him especially effective in recording and documenting the minutes of the meetings, as well as providing information to all residents in a thorough, timely and accurate fashion.
As a retired Lysander town supervisor and a concerned resident of Lysander, I ask for your vote for Kevin Rode on the Democratic line for Lysander town clerk. Let’s make sure that we elect the most qualified candidate. Please vote on Nov. 8 for Kevin Rode.
