To the editor:
I am writing in response to the recent editorial published in the Cazenovia Republican criticizing Jennifer Gavilondo for working to ensure that the developers of the proposed Aldi on Route 20 comply with village zoning requirements.
Jason Emerson’s insinuation that Ms. Gavilondo could not possibly be impartial in this matter due to her husband’s leadership position on the Cazenovia Preservation Foundation was insulting and demeaning. Even more unprofessional was his statement implying that he, the editor, knows better than she what is in her mind — and that her responses to his queries were lies. The Village Planning Board is responsible for ensuring that developments reflect the vision and needs of all residents, and the individuals who serve on the boards dedicate their time and talents toward this end.
There is no unanimity of opinion regarding the Aldi proposal. I believe that having an active and assertive planning board will help reassure our community that the process has been fair and reasonable. This irresponsible editorial does not move us toward consensus.
