CAZENOVIA — On Wednesday, Nov. 10, the Cazenovia Central School District (CCSD) Athletic Department hosted a press conference in recognition of student athlete Sammy Sparks, who was given the opportunity to publicly sign a National Letter of Intent and announce her collegiate plans for the 2022-2023 school year.
During the event, which was held on the second floor of Cazenovia High School (CHS), Sparks signed a NCAA Division II Scholarship Letter to play field hockey at Converse University in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
She also stated that she plans to study interior design.
Among those present at the event were the athlete’s parents, Jim and Brenda Sparks; her friends; Varsity Field Hockey Head Coach Lorraine Scheftic; CCSD Athletic Administrator Mike Byrnes; CCSD Superintendent Christopher DiFulvio; CHS Principal Molly Hagan; CHS Assistant Principal Jennifer Raux; and members of the media.
“Sammy spent some time on the recruiting trail and discovered a little university down south,” said Byrnes. “Good things have happened for her, and all her hard work has paid off. It’s just a great accomplishment, [and it’s great] to see her goals being reached in her sport. It’s a good model for other students, [demonstrating] that good things can happen when you work hard.”
