CAZENOVIA — Assistant Professor Ben Baughman, Ph.D., program director for the criminal justice and homeland security studies program at Cazenovia College, will join panelists of the longtime WCNY-TV public affairs commentary show, “Ivory Tower.”
The show’s weekly roundtable discussion focuses on news and events from the perspective of academicians from across Central New York. Panelists hail from Syracuse University, Colgate University, SUNY-Cortland, Onondaga Community College, Utica College, and Cazenovia College.
Ivory Tower airs Fridays at 8 p.m. on WCNY-TV public television. Baughman’s first appearance on the show is scheduled for Friday, May 14.
Baughman joined Cazenovia College in fall 2020. Prior to that, he taught law enforcement intelligence and investigative psychology at Mercyhurst University at the school’s Tom Ridge Intelligence Studies program, where he also led its Amazon Team NEXT (New & Experimental Thinking).
After a 15-year career with the Raleigh Police Department in North Carolina, he retired in 2013 and returned to the United Kingdom to complete a doctorate in investigative psychology under renowned professor David V. Canter. During his law enforcement career in Raleigh, Baughman served as an officer, sergeant, detective, and hostage negotiator. He has also worked with the North Carolina Justice Academy to write and deliver mandatory and in-service training to police officers. He has instructed officers in areas such as investigation of sexual deviant behavior, hostage negotiations, improving decision-making skills, de-escalation techniques, and leadership courses.
Cazenovia College was previously represented on Ivory Tower by Professor John Robert (”Bob”) Greene, the Paul J. Schupf professor of history and humanities and program director of history at the college. Greene served as a regular panelist for 17 years.
