A group of Baldwinsville Central School District retirees delivered 28.5 bushels of apples to district staff Sept. 15.
“It was a gesture toward all the staff on how much we recognize the sacrifices they’re making,” said Edwina Hay, who led the effort.
Hay, who retired from Durgee Junior High School, gathered donations from her fellow retirees and purchased apples from Abbott Farms. Hay joined fellow BCSD retirees Megan Spencer and Susan Mone and a couple of their helpers to deliver the apples last week to teachers, bus drivers, aides, cafeteria and custodial workers, administrative professionals and other employees.
“An apple a day keeps the doctor away,” Hay said. “Everybody was very grateful and I’m glad.”
