On May 4, the Baldwinsville community will celebrate the artistic talents of local students in grades nine through 12.
This spring marks the 25th anniversary of the Baldwinsville Public Library Student Photography Contest. The contest was started in 1993 by Pam Cecil and was initially sponsored by Mr. Edwin Baker of the Baker Studio of Photography.
The contest has evolved over the years as students employ traditional photographic techniques as well as digital photography. Students participating in the contest may submit up to two original photographs during early April. Photographs are displayed in the library a few weeks prior to the awards ceremony.
Monetary prizes are given for first, second and third place as well as a “Judge’s Choice,” a “People’s Choice” award and a new “Darkroom Prize.” The Baldwinsville Center for the Arts now sponsors the contest and Mark Dengler, board president of the BCA, will present the awards on May 4.
The students’ work will be on display at the library through the end of May. Visitors of the exhibition will have the chance to vote for their favorite until May 31.
Please consider celebrating the “silver anniversary” of this event. Awards ceremony and reception will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at the Baldwinsville Public Library at 33 E. Genesee St. in Baldwinsville. This event is free and open to the public.
