Lysander — Spring is coming, and that means summer programs are just around the corner. Check out what Lysander has in store for the coming months.
Lysander Day Camp registration begins
Big changes are coming to the Lysander Day Camp program, which takes place from July 11 to Aug. 19. First, the camp is moving from Palmer Elementary School to Lysander Town Park on Smokey Hollow Road.
“Camp will be held at Lysander Town Park rain or shine, Monday [through] Friday. It’s going to be a new experience for all and we are excited to bring the program to our park,” Recreation Program Director Tony Burkinshaw said. “We hope that this will bring more people into the park and bring more awareness of the park.”
Second, the camp program has removed the Baldwinsville Central School District residency requirement, opening up enrollment to the first 60 campers who apply.
“Before, there was a residency policy and a set price if you lived in Lysander or if you didn’t,’ Burkinshaw said. “Then we went to a school district policy, but not everyone attended BSCD. So now it’s one price for all.”
Also, the camp is offering extended hours for morning and afternoon childcare. Morning care begins at 7:30 a.m. and afternoon care is available until 6 p.m.
Six one-week sessions of Lysander Day Camp run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday between July 11 and Aug. 19. Children who have completed kindergarten up to grade six may participate in the camp. For regular day camp, registration is $110 per child. Extended hours are also available; to send kids from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., registration is $135 per child; from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., it’s $175 per child; and from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., it’s $200 per child. Applications will be available on townoflysander.org.
CrossFit and tai chi
continued — Smokey Hollow CrossFit is hosting a six-week introductory CrossFit class. Two one-hour sessions will be held between March 1 and April 9. The class will consist of an instructional component “introducing and focusing on proper technique and form associated with the foundational movements involved in CrossFit” followed by a workout with warm-up and cool-down.
Registration costs $65 and is open to people ages 12 and older. Classes will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays. Smokey Hollow CrossFit is located at 69 Smokey Hollow Road, Baldwinsville.
If CrossFit is a little too intense for you, Willow Health and Wellness Center is hosting its third session of tai chi classes from April 4 through May 9. Tai chi, or “moving meditation,” is a low-impact activity that uses slow movements to gently exercise the joints and improve leg strength.
Registration costs $40. Classes will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays between April 4 and March 9. Willow Health and Wellness Center is located at 3090 Belgium Road (Route 31, behind Physical Therapy Plus).
