Phyllis Cox Wright, born on Nov. 7, 1929, passed away at the age of 90 on Oct. 12, 2020, at the Nottingham Skilled Nursing Facility in Jamesville. One of six children, Phyllis was born and raised in Amboy, graduating from Solvay High School in 1946. Phyllis worked in downtown Syracuse for several decades in the insurance industry.
Phyllis was an active member of Amboy Belle Isle United Church and also a member of University United Methodist Church. She was married to the Reverend Donald G. Wright for 15 years before he passed away in June of 1994. Phyllis remained active in many organizations connected to her church, Syracuse University and her community well into her 80s.
Phyllis is survived by her step-children; Doug (Patty), Richard (Roberta), and Deborah; granddaughters Emily Wright and Nell (Timo) Acosta; great-granddaughters Theodora and Elinor; grandsons, Greg, Matthew and Daniel Wright, along with her sister Janice Lovell of Camillus, many nieces, nephews and cousins including nephew Jeff Lovell of Albany, cousin Bob (Lynette) Cox and her “adopted family” – Amanda, Joshua, Tyler, Samantha, Kerri and David Aitken of Jamesville.
Private services will be held at Amboy Belle Isle United Church followed by a burial at Belle Isle Cemetery.
A celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by B.L. Bush & Sons Funeral Home, 10 Genesee St., Camillus.
