Walter C. “Woodie” Woodmansee, of Pittsford, N.Y., formerly of Skaneateles, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020, at age 98. Survived by the love of his life of 73 years, Helen; children, Sally (Bruce Sternberg) Woodmansee, Rory (Sheryl) Woodmansee, Drew (Jane) Woodmansee, Mary (Brian) Segnit; grandchildren, Zach Woodmansee, Maddy Weltler, Sylvia Woodmansee, Adele Woodmansee, Andrew and Alex Segnit, as well as five great-grandchildren.
Woodie grew up in Hartford, CT, and served his country proudly as a lieutenant B-17 bombardier during WWII, flying missions behind the beachhead on D-Day, and held as a POW for the remainder of the war. After the war, he attended Syracuse University where he met and married Helen, obtained a master’s degree in geology, and worked over 30 years as a geologist with the U.S. Federal Government.
Upon retiring, Woodie and Helen moved near Skaneateles and made it their new home for many happy years.
