Our mother dedicated her later life to nursing and her community was those in need. Serving her 8 children was her foremost institution. We will forever admire her utter humility and lack of personal vanity, the way in which she was perfectly principled to give. Memories within our family conjure a beautiful soul who trusted in the power of love without condition or consequence. Her heart bore a sense of care that was universal, she was one who seemed to belong to everyone, except herself. This was her purpose; this was her journey.
Marla H. Quinn of DeWitt, N.Y. was born in Parish N.Y. and raised in Fayetteville, N.Y. She attended FM School and the Cathedral Academy. She earned her B.S. from Le Moyne College where she graduated with honors and received her RN degree from St. Joseph’s College of Nursing. Mrs. Quinn commenced her nursing career at Tompkins County Hospital in Ithaca, N.Y. and was married to C. Barry Quinn, both in 1960. Returning to Dewitt in 1964 the family grew, spurring them onto a larger homestead and country life full of animals in Jamesville NY. With 8 offspring procuring their own educations, she resumed her nursing as a private duty RN, worked at Hill Haven, Loretto Geriatric Center, Red Cross Bloodmobile and Benjamin Rush Psychiatric Hosp. In 1987 Mrs. Quinn took up residency in DeWitt where she continued as a private duty RN as well as offering in-home care for grandchildren and friends’ children. Her steadfast passion for the Yankees and Yankee history was well known. She traveled to visit her children who had fledged far and wide. Marla was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Jamesville and Holy Cross Church. She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Alumni, Le Moyne College Golden Circle, E.P Veterans Assoc, Disabled Vet Assoc, ASPCA, and Guardian Angels Society. Marla is predeceased by her son P. Timothy and her beloved Labrador, Jeter. She is survived and adored by her dedicated sister, Patricia (Tony) Nardella, her 7 children: Kathleen, Kevin (Laura), Theresa (Daniel), Maura, Megan (Todd) Trombley, Sheilah (James), Susan (Philipp) Preuss. She is blessed with 8 grandchildren, Bridget, Caitlin & Michael, Rachael & Amanda, Riley & Zackery, Sean, Penny, & Henrietta. She is further blessed with 3 great-grandchildren, Connor, Michael and Monroe. All her grandchildren were her “hearts delight”. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday August 7, 2020 at 1:00pm Holy Cross Church, DeWitt. To Honor Marla, please make a blood donation to RED CROSS or a gift to ASPCA or Guardian Angel Society of Cathedral. Leave condolences at mathewsonforani.com.
