Ann M. Schmutzler, 85, of Camillus, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 3, 2017. Ann was born and raised in Ashley, Pennsylvania, where she lived until she moved to Fairmount, where she married Lester F. Schmutzler Jr. in 1950. Ann devoted her life to her children and grandchildren and to activities that benefited children of all kinds. These included working as a childcare provider, volunteering as a leader of Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, and for the Camillus Ski Association, where she was a prominent force for more than 40 years. She also was an avid supporter of West Genesee athletics. In 1986, she was the recipient of the George Mezey Service Award for service to the Optimist Club. In 2011, Ann was inducted to the Camillus/West Genesee Community Sports Hall of Fame for her years of service to recreation and sports activities in Camillus. She loved spending time with her family at their summer camp on Skaneateles Lake. Many happy times and wonderful memories were created there where she was always at the center of the activities. Ann had a generous and loving spirit, offering help and giving of herself wherever she was needed. Her proudest achievement was her relationship with her grandchildren; all of who returned her love tenfold! Ann was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Patricia Schmutzler Geiss, and her beloved son, William Schmutzler.
Ann is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lester; son, Thomas (Ermine Izzo) of Rochester; daughter, Susan (Thomas) Smith of Syracuse; and grandchildren J.P. Geiss, Gianna Geiss, Greggory Geiss, Helen Ann Schmutzler, Stephen Schmutzler, Alexandra Smith, Timothy Smith, Nicole Dempsey and Marissa Dempsey; and great-grandchild Christopher Dempsey.
