The Cazenovia Village Board has scheduled a special meeting for June 20 to discuss and potentially vote on the proposed annexation into the village of 10 acres of land on Route 20 that is marked for redevelopment.
The board set the special meeting at its June 6 monthly meeting, after hearing a presentation from the developers proposing to build an Aldi on the Route 20 land in question, as well as the developer who plans to build a pharmacy, credit union and senior housing apartments in the same area.
The partners for Sphere Development LLC gave an overview of the entire development project, discussing issues such as parking, traffic studies and aesthetics. They were there to update the board on any changes made to the proposal since the last presentation made to the joint village/town annexation board, which were few.
At the end of the presentation, the board scheduled a special meeting whose sole topic would be the annexation request for 7 p.m. Monday, June 20, in the board meeting room in the village office. The board will go through the state environmental review that is necessary for such projects, and then potentially will vote on the annexation request.
“Whether or not the board opts to vote on the annexation petition on that date will be dependent on the determination that we have all the information we need to make a fully informed decision,” said Mayor Kurt Wheeler.
The Cazenovia Town Board, whose next regular meeting was Monday, June 13, after press time, must also vote on the annexation request. The request will only be approved if both boards vote to approve it.
