On Saturday, Feb. 8, Cazenovia resident Darlene Norris celebrated the grand opening of her new business, Darlene’s Pampered Pets Doggy Day Care & Boarding, at 2149 Rippleton Cross Rd.
The business offers dog daycare services Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., as well as overnight boarding.
According to Norris, the facility has heated floors, air conditioning, and three large dog runs, where pets of similar sizes can safely play and relax.
“It’s a warm and cozy environment for the dogs,” said Norris. “There really isn’t anything else around like this. It’s more of a home atmosphere than other [boarding facilities] . . . The dogs that I board here are treated the same as the dogs that come in for daycare. They go on walks, they have people to play with, and I am here all the time with them . . . because it’s right here at my home, it’s just a different environment . . .”
Norris, who started Spotless Spaces Cleaning Service in 2010, was inspired to launch her latest venture by her love of animals.
“A lot of the people that I clean for have [pets], and I just work well with animals,” she said. “This is something that I’ve wanted to do for a long, long time.”
Last year, in preparation for opening her new business, Norris traveled to Hershey, Pennsylvania to attend national conferences for professionals in the pet boarding and daycare industry.
“I’ve taken pet first aid and CPR; I’ve done the boarding expo and the sanitation expo; I’ve completed the brusher/bather course; and I’ve done the grooming expo,” said Norris. “ . . . You get certifications when you complete certain classes.”
