Madison County’s Cazenovia Bagel Co. recently announced it will be spreading its wings (and more cream cheese) in the next few months by opening a second location in DeWitt— appropriately named DeWitt Bagel Co. — set to open this spring.
The new shop by the Cazenovia-based coffee and bagel shop will be located in the same plaza as Dark Horse Tavern along E. Genesee Street in DeWitt.
Kevin McGreevy, who owns the company with his wife Kelly, said the company has always envisioned opening a second location, and are looking to replace a once-popular bagel shop in DeWitt.
“It has always been our intention to open more than one location; timing and location is everything so we had to be patient” said McGreevy.
Many residents throughout Central New York remember the Dewitt Bagelry Café, a business that closed a few years ago, so the company wanted to “fill that void” after it left the community.
“We find that our business model works after being in business in Cazenovia for almost two years,” he said. “We are excited to expand our brand and business.”
The new location also comes with a new coffee blend from Syracuse-based Recess Coffee— DeWitt Bagel Blend — but it will be the same as its Cazenovia Bagel Blend.
“We are coffee lovers and have always enjoyed Recess Coffee,” said McGreevy. “We knew when we decided to open our business we needed to serve their coffee. Recess developed a proprietary blend for us, Cazenovia Bagel Blend; we, as well as our customers, love it so much we decided to keep the same blend for DeWitt as well.”
McGreevy said the coffee is “very smooth” with hints of chocolate.
“It’s absolutely delicious,” he said.
McGreevy said construction will start in a couple of weeks and the new location will open by spring 2019.
“We are so grateful for our incredible staff, as well as the Cazenovia and surrounding communities, for their support,” he said. “This new adventure would not be possible without it.”
