SKANEATELES — On Jan. 17, the congregation at Holy Trinity Lutherna Church celebrated the 100th birthday of a member of the church.
Anna Buso Salway, was honored at the oldest and according to many the dearest member of the churc on her birthday.
Salway has lived much of her life in Skaneateles, particularly in the Rose Hill area of the Skaneateles community.
She was born to a farm family and spent her childhood helping with every job she couyld.
She tells many stories of all the challenges of getting to and from church and school from the isolated farm.
She graduated from Skaneateles School with a love of art, and her family sent her to New York City to pursue that dream.
This time in the city, studying art, marked the one period of her life she spent away from Skaneateles.
She became an accomplished paint and pen and ink artist.
However, her bond to the farm brought her back home where she married the love of her life, Norman Salway.
She worked side by side with him on the farm for many years.
She became a pillar of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, serving in many roles.
She continued with her art, and her home is filled with her creations.
She is widowed and has stopped farming but continues to live in her family home and work on her art.
On April 29, 2017, at age 96, she was honored with an art show at the church fellowship hall. Salway continues to entertain her family, friends and caregivers with amazing stories of her remarkable life and the church was honored ot be able to celebrate her extraordinary life.
