UMC to host Cornell Glee Club, coloring night for adults

Skaneateles United Methodist Church
For the twelfth year, the young men of the Cornell University Glee Club will present their music at the Skaneateles United Methodist Church in the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Sept. 15. Their repertoire will reflect on “Generations and Connections.”
This gift of music is the culmination of the group’s weekend retreat in Skaneateles, as they welcome new members to their group, rehearse and bond with each other. Under the direction of Robert Isaacs, this ensemble of men’s voices, usually singing without any instrumental accompaniment, always inspires and awes. The Skaneateles community and area Cornell University Alumni are invited to share in this special time of worship and music.
There is nursery care available for children 5 and under; but children of all ages are welcome to experience this special worship service. Free parking is available in the municipal lot until noon, but please plan on arriving early to secure a parking space. Skaneateles UMC is handicapped accessible.
On Thursday, Sept. 26, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Skaneateles United Methodist Church will host a Free Coloring Night for Adults who appreciate the creative and relaxing benefits of coloring. To kick-off this first gathering of coloring aficionados, we will have a guest artist, Marlene Roeder with us.
Roeder has worked in the realm of the arts as a classroom teacher and art teacher, as a facilitator of an arts magnet school, with the New York State Council on the Arts, and as the associate curator of education at the Everson Museum of Art. In her “retirement” she has created her “Circles of Life” designs to be colored.
She will give a brief overview of how she came to draw these circular designs, also known as mandalas; and a word about the A21 Campaign, a group that works to eliminate human trafficking in the US and around the world.
Persons participating are welcome to bring their own designs to color. Coloring supplies (colored pencils, pens, etc.) will be provided. Participants also can choose to purchase design pages created by Ms. Roeder to color, with part of the proceeds benefitting the A21Campaign.
Light refreshments will be served. This group is open to all adults in the Skaneateles area and will meet in the Gathering Room of Skaneateles United Methodist Church; participants are asked to enter by the portico door by the church office, which is handicap assessible. The church is located at 26 Jordan St, and parking is available in the municipal lot at the rear of the building.
