SUNY ESF visits Camillus Park
By Mary Flynn
Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, The Friends of Camillus Park hosted SUNY ESF Professor Diane Kuehn and her Eco Tourism Graduate Class consisting of 17 students for a guided tour of the existing trails in the forest and grounds of Camillus Park .
The graduate class will spend the fall semester assessing the revitalization of Camillus Park and forest. The focus of the study will include reviewing existing trails to identify positive and negative attributes. Recommendation will be given for changes such as appearance, type of trail surface, erosion, poor drainage, length, safety/security as well as current uses of the trails, (hiking, bicycling, etc.)
Park signage will be assessed as to entry, directional, and interpretive signs as well as trail markers and identifying sign materials that should be used. Also recommendations will be offered to identify and improve brochures, websites, guidebooks and programs/events for Camillus Park.
The day was very successful and a wonderful opportunity to introduce Dr. Kuehn and the Graduate Class to our beautiful Camillus Park.
We are looking forward to the recommendations that will enhance the forest and increase the enjoyment of the Park for all our neighbors and friends.
