Already with a strong victory over West Genesee on the ledger, the Baldwinsville girls tennis team moved on to face other strong CNY Counties League foes. And none was stronger than Fayetteville-Manlius, whom the Bees confronted on Thursday afternoon in a battle for early league supremacy. Once again, though, B’ville could not quite catch the Hornets, taking a 5-2 defeat. Those points came from Kahlei Reisinger, who again rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 singles sweep, this one over Maggie Bonomo, and from the doubles team of Lauren Dusse and Taylor Slink, who claimed a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Madison Jordan and Shirley Zhang. Another point was within reach in doubles, with Natalie Kott and Bridgett Brown winning the first set 6-0 against Katerina Atallah and Patrice Calancie, only to drop the second set 6-4 and fall in a third-set tie-breaker. Jennifer Stone fell to Christina Lew 6-1, 6-4, while Marissa Tommarello got overwhelmed in a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Olivia Wojnovich. Gabby Fiello, paired with Amanda Coogan, lost, 6-4, 6-2, to Abby Welker and Mary Trop, with Alina Minkova and Riley Warren taking a 6-1, 6-4 defeat to Catarina Westergaard and Diana Polovick. Visiting Cicero-North Syracuse last Tuesday afternoon, the Bees won majorities on both the singles and doubles side, putting away the Northstars by a 5-2 margin. Reisinger again rolled, 6-0, 6-0, this time over Brooke Murphy. Stone had a 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 defeat to Madison Murphy, but Coogan took out Nicole Perrigo 6-2, 6-2. On the doubles side, Katherine Cassidy and Taylor Collado lost in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), to Christine Gregory and Gabby Rawda, but the Bees won the other three points in straight sets. That began with Kot and Brown turning back Salmons and Abigail Ellis 6-0, 6-1, and continued with Slink and Dusse beating Meghan Tryniski and Brenna Duffy 6-2, 6-1. Fiello and Tommarello won, 6-3, 6-3, over Scorzelli and Hanna Costello.
