It proved to be quite a fun week for the Cazenovia girls soccer team, who improved to 3-1 on the season and got to showcase a high-powered attack against a pair of overmatched foes.
In last Monday’s game against Jordan-Elbridge, the Lakers were particularly sharp in the first half, scoring a half-dozen times on its way to shutting out the Eagles 8-0.
That 6-0 margin included all sorts of contributions. Cazenovia’s offense was well-balanced, as six different players got goals, none more than Audrey Burbidge and Kelsi Fredericks, each of whom finished with two goals and one assist.
Clare Costello was close behind, earning one goal and one assist, while Hannah Rousell and Samantha Gates also got credit for goals. Kate Sullivan and Casey Crawford each had one assist.
Cazenovia’s trip to Hannibal on Thursday afternoon had the same result, the Lakers dictating all of the terms in a 6-1 victory over the Warriors.
What was a 2-0 halftime edge doubled thanks to a relentless offensive push. Fredericks scored twice, adding an assist, while Abbie McEntee stepped up and also got a pair of goals.
Crawford managed one goal and one assist, with Rousell also finding the net and Burbidge managing an assist. Hannibal goalie Spencer Kenney had to make 21 saves to keep it from getting more lopsided.
Now armed with a three-game win streak, Cazenovia hosts Bishop Ludden Tuesday night, and makes a non-league trip to Rome Free Academy on Sept. 21.
