As a final tune-up for the post-season, the Baldwinsville girls track and field team dominated last Saturday’s Weedsport Invitational, scoring 151 points, well clear of runner-up Living Word Academy (55 points) and the rest of the 13-team field.
Gabby Jordan and Stephanie Vasteno went 1-2 in the 100-meter dash, as Jordan won in 13.10 seconds and Vasteno (13.22 seconds) closely followed. Later, in the 4×100, Jordan, Vasteno, Cierra Allen and Rebecca Lawrence blazed to a win in the 4×100 relay in 50.87 seconds.
Marissa Lathrop, in 1:02.79, earned the victory in the 400-meter dash, with Katie Wicks (1:03.28) gaining second place. Mackenzie Ross cruised to an 800-meter title in 2:24.54 as Nicole Piontkowski (2:31.93) was runner-up, with Piontkowski adding a fifth in the 400-meter hurdles.
Ross, Meghan Hull, Kelley Hull and Madison Gonzalez pulled away and took the 4×800 relay in 10:45.42, with the Hulls also joining Kourtnee Allen and Sara Bartelli as B’ville finished second (5:02.06) to Weedsport (4:47.87) in the 1,600 sprint medley.
Rachael Miller had a quick time of 4:51.43 in the 1,500-meter run, while Mia Bolton (5:12.07) finished third. Emily Thompson was victorious in the 3,000-meter run in 11:05.91. Emily Soeder cleared 5 feet and won the high jump, with Bryn Judkins in sixth place.
Carlie McNamara, with a throw of 93’3”, finished second in the discus, adding a seventh in the shot put. Maddie Darstein took third (13’10 ½”) and Melissa Voyer fourth (13’7 ¾”) in the long jump, with Haleigh Jaquint sixth in the triple jump.
Elizabeth Wisely was third in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.56 seconds, while Shayna Weber took fourth place (28.65 seconds) in the 200-meter dash.
Before this, the girls Bees roared through last Wednesday’s meets against Henninger, beating the Black Knights 119-21, with sprinter Gabby Jordan winning twice as she got through the 100-meter dash in 12.6 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 26.7 seconds.
Thompson, Miller and Annie Peterson hit the finish line in the 3,000-meter run together, in 12:14, this after Miller took the 1,500-meter run in 5:06 and Kim Cushman won the 800-meter run in 2:47.
Ross nearly broke a minute in the 400-meter dash as she prevailed in 1:00.1, while Piontkowski took the 400 hurdles in 1:03.2 and Hannah Wood was first in the 100 hurdles in 15.8 seconds.
Lauren Fisher was first in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet, as McNamara threw the discus 90’6” and Cecilia Martinez had a top shot put toss of 29’3”.
B’ville swept the 4×100 (50.5 seconds), 4×400 (4:22.0) and 4×800 (10:44.0) relays as Ross, Thompson, Peterson, Piontkowski, Jordan, Fisher, Vasteno, Tomasello, Allen, Wicks and Hannah Roux all took part.
As for the boys Bees, they made a small appearance during Saturday’s South Jefferson Invitational, picking up 17 points. Tom Ancilotti was second in the discus, heaving it 121’4”, bettered only by Cicero-North Syracuse’s Joe Castaldo (133’1”).
Sean Maar got to fourth place in the 400-meter dash in 55.20 seconds. Chris Twichell was sixth in the 400 hurdles in 1:06.74, with Sam Smith sixth in the 110 high hurldles. B’ville also took fifth in the 4×800 relay and sixth in the 4×400 relay.
