Cazenovia’s track and field teams both moved to 2-0 in the OHSL Liberty division last Wednesday with victories over Syracuse’s Institute of Technology Central at Buckley-Volo Field.
The much closer boys meet saw ITC control the sprints and jumping events, but Cazenovia making up for it elsewhere to defeat the Eagles 76-65.
Sean Satchwell, Cameron Braathen and Nick Petroff led the Lakers to victory. Satchwell ran the mile in 5:02.5 and also won the 3,200-meter run in 11:34.7.
Petroff, with his time of 2:20.3 in the 800, completed Cazenovia’s sweep of the distance running events, and he went on to clear 9’6” for first place in the pole vault.
Braathen ruled in the shot put, with a toss of 43’9”, and the discus, where he prevailed by heaving it 116’6”. Walker Nichols also won, in the high jump, where he cleared 5’6”.
The girls Lakers earned a one-sided 119-22 victory over the Eagles as Jeanette Cudney started the day by teaming with Malone Gabor, Colleen Stalder and Megan Stanford to take the 4×800 relay in 10 minutes, 39.7 seconds. Then Cudney won the 1,500-meter run in 5:25.10 and claimed the 800-meter run in 2:35 flat.
Ashley Kent also won twice, going 32 feet 8 ¾ inches in the triple jump and beating the field int eh 100-meter hurdles in 17.1 seconds. Kent, joined by Ashley Winn, Liz Pittman and Jess Macheda, helped the Lakers get first place in the 4×100 relay in 52.8 seconds.
Winn was also part of the 4×400 relay, helping Stanford, Cudney and Evelyn Wells finish in 4:28.7, this after going through the 100-meter dash in 12.3 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 26.1 seconds. Stanford, in the 400-meter hurdles, prevailed in 1:17.5.
Pittman cleared 8 feet in the pole vault and had a first-place long jump of 14’7 ½”. Maria Stalder was victorious in the 400-meter dash in 1:07.9, just as Tori Fischer topped 4’6” in the high jump.
On Friday, Winn would be a featured performer at the Chittenango Invitational and sweep both sprints as the Lakers earned 33 points, seventh in a 24-team field, but best among schools Class B or smaller.
In the 100, Winn posted a time of 12.53 seconds, topping Nottingham’s Ke’arra Allen (12.79 seconds) and more than 40 other sprinters. Then, in the 200, Winn tore to a time of 25.83 seconds, more than a full second-better than the runner-up, Jamesville-DeWitt’s Ally Fox (26.87).
Pittman, by clearing 8 feet, rose to third place in the pole vault after taking ninth in the triple jump. Lizzy Bigsby had a strong showing in the pentathlon, taking fifth place with 2,146 points.
Cudney was fifth in the 3,000 (11:13.41) and 10th in the 800, teaming with Milmoe, Gabor and Colleen Stalder for fifth place in the 4×800 in 10:45.17. The Lakers were ninth in the 4×400. Stanford gained sixth place in the 400 hurdles in 1:14.42.
Though the boys Lakers didn’t gain any points in the Chittenango meet, Braathen threw the shot put 43’7” to finish seventh. Nichols was 10th in the high jump, clearing 5’4”.
