Jamesville-DeWitt High School has been named a semi-finalist in this year’s New York State mock trial tournament.
Six mock trial teams from high schools across the state will compete in Albany on May 21 and 22 for a spot in the finals. Teams will argue the fictional case “People of the State of New York vs. P.J. Long,” which involves a defendant charged with second-degree assault.
The five other schools that were also named semi-finalists are: Clarence High School, of Erie County, Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons High School, of Schenectady County, Nyack High School, of Rockland County, Townsend Harris High School, of Queens County and William Floyd High School, of Suffolk County.
New York State Court of Appeals Judge Robert S. Smith will preside over the final round at the James T. Foley Federal Courthouse in Albany on May 22. The event is open to the public.
The mock trial season began in December, 2011, when more than 300 New York high school teams started preparing and presenting their cases in local tournaments. Local county winners moved on to regional tournaments. Regional winners are competing in the semi-finals.
