Though Santa Claus left his sleigh and reindeer in the North Pole, he was able to hitch a ride with the Camillus Fire Department as he visited the eager children of both the town and village Saturday.
Santa waved to the children from atop the fire truck in Camillus, handing out candy canes and spreading holiday cheer for all to see and hear. Sirens whirred and “Jingle Bells” played from the speakers, encouraging kids to come out and see the North Pole’s wonder as he made one final stop in Camillus before his Christmas Eve adventure.
Acting as Santa’s helper, firefighter Brad Waite hopped off the fire truck at each stop, giving children and parents alike candy canes and wishing them a happy holiday season.
Lighting the way as Rudolph on Engine No. 4, firefighter Sam Maxsween and Capt. Matt Schreyer lead Santa through the village streets and the town’s housing developments. Explorers Matt Mancuso and Chris Degrick, both 14, and firefighter Sam Pitcher joined the crew escorting Santa. Three trucks in total wound through the town Saturday morning with more than 120 boxes of candy canes to distribute.
