Turning left at six intersections in Camillus will now be illegal and enforceable by Camillus Police.
A public hearing was held on the issue during the regular town board meeting Tuesday, Dec. 13.
The local law will be adopted by the board to enforce the left-hand ban at six places in the town.
“Now, if people choose to buzz by and a police officer is there, they will be ticketed,” said Supervisor Mary Ann Coogan.
The law will be added to a section of the traffic and vehicle law, allowing police to enforce the prohibited left turns at the designated intersections. Signs are currently up at these intersections telling motorists to not turn left, though police did not have a law they could use to enforce the rule.
The law, Councilor David Callahan said, will allow for “better control” over the left turns deemed dangerous.
The affected intersections are:
Home Depot exit on Hinsdale Road
Fast Trac gas station exit on Hinsdale Road
Dunkin Donuts on West Genesee Street
Walgreens on West Genesee Street
Hess gas station exit on West Genesee Turnpike
Citgo gas station on West Genesee Street
