On Wednesday, Nov. 16, the Cazenovia Police Department unveiled the newest addition to their force. A second taser was purchased by the Cazenovia Police Benevolent Association and given to the department, after a donation from local resident and president of SecureIt Tactical Inc., Tom Kubinec.
“I saw the article in the paper, and read that the police department wanted a second one. It gives these guys options,” said Kubinec. “We were in the position to do it. It’s a small community, we all have to pitch in.”
In September, Kubinec agreed to donate $1,400 dollars, on behalf of SecureIt Tactical, to the PBA for the purchase of a second electronic control device. An X26 model was purchased, which boasts audio and video capabilities.
SecureIt Tactical specializes in weapons storage and armory design services from their headquarters in East Syracuse, as well as their locations in Boston, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. The company offers sustainable weaponry and gear storage solutions to law enforcement personnel as well as the military, and plans to branch out to private homeowners.
Although none of the officers have been forced to use the taser while on patrol, Police Chief Hayes was appreciative of the charitable donation made by Kubinec, which allowed the department to enhance their inventory.
“I’m just thankful for people like Tom and his company,” Hayes said. “Without that kind of community support, our jobs would be a whole lot more difficult.”
During the taser training session the police department completed in July, 11 officers were certified to carry, and administer the electronic control device.
Hayes said as long two of the officers on duty are certified, they will be equipped with the tasers.
