Air-1 helicopter called to assist with brush fire in Memphis

The county’s Air-1 helicopter was called to help combat a brush fire this week, said Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh.

A large brush fire on Warners Road was reported to the Memphis Fire Department at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, and Air-1 was also called. Assisting firefighters on the ground, the Air-1 flight crew used the helicopter’s “Bambi Bucket” to conduct three water drops to help extinguish the fire, Walsh said.

Air-1 helicopter also called to assist the New York State Police that day with a tractor accident reported just before 5:30 p.m. on West Dead Creek Road, Baldwinsville. A 50-year-old man, whose name was not released by the sheriff’s department, sustained serious injuries. He was transported to University Hospital by the Air-1 flight crew, and during the flight received care from flight physician Christopher Fullagar.
