Voters overwhelmingly passed a facilities referendum in the North Syracuse Central School District Wednesday Oct. 19, voting 620 to 217 to approve renovations to Gillette Road Middle School, Roxboro Road Middle School and Cicero-North Syracuse High School at a total cost of $3.8 million.
The referendum called for the replacement of roofs at the three buildings, as well as roof drainage and/or roof flashings. It’s part of the districts comprehensive roof replacement plan instituted in 2005.
At Gillette Road, the following work will be completed:
Replacement of the gym roof with a metal roof system including drain replacement
Replacement of the auditorium roof
Investigate and repair areas around units that were identified as anomalies
Total cost will be $1.1 million
At Roxboro Road, the following work will be completed:
Replace all of the roof areas with the exception of the new additions and gym area
Total cost will be 1.95 million
At C-NS, the following work will be completed:
Replace counter flashing along walls of certain areas
Replace certain roof areas
Total cost will be $750,000
The total tax impact will be $1.95 per $100,000 home,
The work at GRMS and RRMS was not completed when the schools were renovated in 2004 and 2006 respectively because roof replacements were not necessary at that time.
The roofs replaced at GRMS, RRMS and C-NS are all around 30 years old. Work will be completed during the summer months to avoid interfering with instruction.
