Some much-needed victories in the latter stages of the regular season would help assure that the Skaneateles boys soccer team would return to the Section III Class B playoffs.
In a tense game at Homer Tuesday night, the Lakers had to play hard in the second half to squeeze out a 3-2 victory over the Trojans.
The two sides were even, 1-1, at halftime, but Skaneateles got in front in the late going as Zach Brownlee, with one goal and one assist, led the attack.
B.J. Kerr and Sean Farrell both scored, too, while Ian Hilpl got credit for an assist. Erik Pola, who has played nearly every minute this season in the Lakers’ net, finished with seven saves.
In the regular season’s final week, Skaneateles (6-7) plays three times, going up against Jordan-Elbridge, Solvay and Westhill, hoping at least to be at the .500 mark by Oct. 23, when the Class B sectional brackets are announced.
