West Genesee’s girls team remains deadlocked with Baldwinsville atop the CNY Counties League standings.
In Wednesday’s home meet against Cicero-North Syracuse, Brianna Smith and Shannon Cahalan led a deep roster that put together a 93-87 victory over the Northstars.
Smith started in the 200 freestyle, winning that race in 2:05.13, and later in the meet she went to the 100 freestyle and claimed first place in that event in 58.21 seconds. Cahalan was first in the 100 butterfly (1:06.68) and also earned a victory in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.99.
Kim Pedrotti earned her title in the 100 breaststroke, winning in 1:12.17, while Abby Uczen won a diving duel with CNS’s Stacie DeCarr, 200.7 points to 188.2. Abby Mullett won the 200 individual medley (2:32.56) and Olivia Castro tore to a strong time of 5:34.52 in the 500 freestyle.
Cahalan, Gianna Branca, Hannah Kanoza and Erin Dowler combined to take the 200 medley relay in 2:03.29 to give WG a quick later. On her own, Branca earned a top time of 27.21 seconds in the 50 freestyle.
WG is home twice more, for meets against Liverpool and New Hartford in a 48-hour span starting next Wednesday, before the Oct. 25 showdown at B’ville that could decide the league title.
