Fuming at its narrow home defeat to Liverpool on Sept. 9, the West Genesee boys golf team had to wait nearly a week to bounce back.
Twice, the Wildcats would prevail, most importantly in Thursday’s showdown with unbeaten Fayetteville-Manlius at Woodcrest, where it fought past the Hornets 191-195 to improve to 4-1 on the season. WG had also beat F-M in the season-opening Henninger Tournament at Drumlins on Aug. 29.
Louis Ciarla stepped up for WG, his 36 for nine holes beaten only by F-M’s Nick Perrucci, who had a 35. John Clare posted a 37, with Jimmy Sauda and Nick Smith each finishing at 39. Bryan Semple would produce a 40.
A day earlier, on the familiar grounds at Westvale, the Wildcats met Central Square and easily beat the Red Hawks 206-294.
Clare, who shot 37, finished behind the Red Hawks’ Zach Spencer (34) and Brandon Payne (35). WG had more depth, though, as Louis Ciara and Bryan Semple both shot 38 and Adam Korzeniewski managed a 39. Jimmy Sauda contributed a 42.
This followed the Wildcats’ 193-194 decision with Liverpool, a match where Andrew VanMarter shot 37 for the Warriors, one better than Semple and Clare. Smith had a 39 and Pat Matkowski posted a 40.
No travel is required for the Wildcats this week as it has home matches at Westvale against Rome Free Academy, Syracuse and Baldwinsville.
