Van Buren officials have made a positive recommendation to the New York State Liquor Authority regarding an amendment to Quaker Steak & Lube’s existing alcohol license, which will allow patrons of the establishment to carry alcoholic beverages in the parking lot during Bike Nights.
Pat Direnzo, the general manager of the facility, requested patrons be allowed to carry beverages in the Quaker Steak bike lot from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evenings from May through September. Drawing between 150 and 400 people, the event allows patrons to view motorcycles and vendors in the facility’s lot. Patrons would have to go indoors to purchase drinks; there would be no outdoor bars. A private security team, as well as three sheriffs, would monitor the lots and control the crowd, Direnzo added.
A public hearing was held regarding the matter. While several audience members were in favor of the proposal, no one was opposed.
“I’m pleased to see all the positive comments and no negative ones,” said Councilor Howard Tupper.
Officials forwarded the matter to New York state.
