A public hearing regarding an amendment to Quaker Steak & Lube’s existing alcohol license will be held at 7:32 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Van Buren town hall, corner of Ellsworth and Van Buren roads.
Pat Direnzo, the general manager of the facility, is seeking permission to allow patrons to carry alcoholic beverages in the parking lot of the establishment during Biker Nights, which are held Wednesday evenings from late April through September and draw anywhere from 400 to 600 people. The proposed amendment would be restricted to between 5 and 9 p.m. while patrons viewed vehicles and vendors in the facility’s lot. Patrons would have to go indoors to purchase drinks; there would be no outdoor bars. A private security team, as well as three sheriffs, would monitor the lots and control the crowd, Direnzo said.
The town of Van Buren will hear comments in favor and against the proposal during the public hearing. Afterward, officials will make a recommendation, but the New York State Liquor Authority will have the final say.
