The Skaneateles girls swim team got an up-close look at, arguably, Section III’s top program during last week’s action.
Traveling to LeMoyne College’s pool Tuesday night, the Lakers met Christian Brothers Academy and got a fair amount of points, but still lost to the Brothers 98-81.
Despite CBA’s effort, Skaneateles did have some highlights, including the 500 freestyle, where Rachael DeWitt edged past the Brothers’ Courtney Finkbeiner. DeWitt had a time of 5:40.86, barely half a second ahead of Finkbeiner.
CBA swept all three relay events and got double wins from Summer Schmitt, in the 200 individual medley (2:14.40) and 100 backstroke (1:00.19), and Maggie Fletcher in the 200 freestyle (1:57.73) and 100 butterfly (1:02.59).
Still, the Lakers had an impressive showing in the 200 freestyle relay, which CBA won in 1:48.26, as Nikki Cole, Holly Ross, Gaelyn Price and Amanda Shoenfelt sped to a time of 1:51.83.
Two nights later, the Lakers were back at the Community Center to face Fulton and went back in the win column, routing the Red Raiders 97-47.
Nikki Cole, Holly Ross, Haley Bucholtz and Paige Williams combined to win the 200 medley relay in 2:09.54 and Cole, on her own, claimed the 50 freestyle in 27.11 seconds. Williams moved on to a first-place time of 6:43.53 in the 500 freestyle.
DeWitt won just once, in the 200 IM (2:27.19), as Sarah Sawyer landed a 200 freestyle victory in 2:18.56 and Emily Wirth won the 100 freestyle in 1:07.32. Courtney Pitman had 141.20 points in diving.
This is the first of five consecutive home meets for the Lakers, who meet Cortland on Wednesday night.
