Tops Friendly Markets in Baldwinsville celebrated its grand re-opening Sept. 8.
Joining 10 other communities in Onondaga County, the facility officially changed the Tops brand banner of the former P&C store.
Ceremonies across the county featured the announcement of capital improvements planned for each store as part of an overall two-year $90 million company-wide capital investment program, as well as donations made on behalf of Tops to various local charities through the company’s “Living Here. Giving Here” community partnership program.
“The entire Tops team has worked very hard to ensure that our new store customers will have a more enjoyable shopping experience as they see the many changes in the setting, amenities, friendly service and promotional grocery items that our neighborhood stores will offer,” said Frank Curci, Tops’ president and CEO. “And we want to be active members of the local community.”
Store improvements, which will vary by individual store, include providing a wider variety and selection of favorite brand products, adding where needed bakery, deli, meat and healthy and organic food departments; introducing the popular Tim Hortons coffee service (now available at the River Mall location), and remodeling store exteriors and interiors.
In addition to Baldwinsville, the new Tops branded stores in Onondaga County include two in De Witt, and single stores in Clay, N. Syracuse, Camillus, Geddes, Fayetteville, Manlius, Salina and Skaneateles. These stores were part of 20 in Central New York participating in same-day grand re-opening celebrations with senior Tops company officials, district and store managers, and local community officials and charities.
The P&C stores were part of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court-approved acquisition of a majority of Penn Traffic’s assets by Tops that was completed on Jan. 29. The name change of the stores to Tops Friendly Markets was included in a rebranding effort announced in early May in which former stores owned by Penn Traffic (Quality Markets, P&C and BiLo) would be changed to Tops by the end of 2010.
