Buoyed by its strong singles play, the Skaneateles boys tennis team improved to 3-2 on the season last Wednesday afternoon, beating rival Marcellus by a 4-1 margin, just one day after weather postponed a key showdown with Cazenovia.
Ryan Sayko shut out Dan Martin 6-0, 6-0, while Laker teammate Joey Robinson beat Kris Danielson by those same scores. Ethan Wilcox, in the same spirit, had a 6-1, 6-0 win over James Garzia.
Over in doubles, Sasha Darovshihk and Danny Glaza gained a 6-0, 6-4 win over James Kinney and Colin Hewitt as Colby VanTyle and Shiva Sharma lost to Brian Swierczek and Jack Kranz 6-3, 7-6.
The Lakers then swept Jordan-Elbridge 5-0 on Friday, as Dan Zollner took a turn in singles and beat Nick Gallaro 6-0, 6-4. Wilcox shut out Conner O’Brien 6-0, 6-0, as Sayko took a 6-0, 6-1 win over Josh Gallaro.
Darovshihk and Glaza returned in doubles, handling Kyle Sherman and Nick Pierlioni 6-2, 6-2, while Sharma temed with Grant Bille for a 6-1, 6-0 sweep of John McCabe and Ryan Baldwin.
Not only does Skaneateles play Hannibal and CBA this week, it goes to Jamesville-DeWitt for an OHSL Tournament on Saturday.
