Nearly a week had passed since the Skaneateles girls lacrosse team had debuted with a loss to Penn Yan, and everyone was quite ready to restore the winning order.
So it was that, on Friday night, the Lakers met Jordan-Elbridge and, though far from spectacular, did enough to pick up an 11-6 victory over the Eagles.
It was difficult for either team to warm up and find a rhythm, given the frigid, winter-like conditions. But Skaneateles did a slightly better job, fighting its way to a 6-4 halftime lead.
What made the Lakers’ effort more impressive was the vast attention J-E gave to Maddy Morrissey, making sure that she didn’t get many open looks.
That was okay, though, for Carly Davis stepped up with three goals and one assist, while Grace Kelly, Diane Vitkus and Erin Callahan each scored twice. Morrissey and Aly Davis had one goal apiece. Chelsea Maitland led J-E with three goals.
Skaneateles hits the road Wednesday to face Cazenovia, then hosts Westhill Friday, with a key April 20 game against Marcellus to follow.
