The Camillus Town Board appointed an environmental attorney Tuesday night to help the town combat the DEC and Honeywell plan to turn Wastebed 13 off Airport Road into a Sediment Consolidation Area.
The Camillus Personnel Committee at a meeting Feb. 17 had initially agreed to hire Bond, Schoeneck and King to represent the town, but the town board moved to appoint attorney Gary S. Bowitch at the meeting Feb. 23 when a conflict prohibited Bond, Schoeneck and King from the job.
Bowitch is an environmental attorney based out of Albany whose areas of practice include land use and zoning.
Councilor David Philippone said Bowitch has experience with the Hudson River clean-up efforts.
Town attorney Dirk Oudemool has stated that Camillus’ best, and perhaps only, grounds for prohibiting the SCA from being built would be relating to the zoning of the area.
