Channel 5 News organized The Amazing Race auditions held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Edgewater Grill in Baldwinsville.
The event drew numerous teams of two from all over central New York including mother and son duo, Mary and Curtis Pastore, of Cicero and Liverpool (respectively). During their audition, Curtis said he and his mother would “make for good TV” and would “love to get the chance to get out there and see the world. Mary added it would be a great opportunity to “share more time with my son.”
Potential cast members were given two minutes to tape an audition explaining why they should be chosen to be on The Amazing Race.
The Amazing Race is a competition style reality television show where teams of two are pitted against one another in a race around the world, complete with challenges for one or both people to participate in. At the end of each leg of the race, teams finish at the pit stop for that location. The last team to check in is eliminated. When three teams are left in the race, the itinerary brings them back to the United States for the finale. The first team to reach the finish line at the end wins the race, and the top prize of one million dollars.
Kate Wood, left, and her brother, Jack, audition for Season 17 of The Amazing Race at the Edgewater Grill last Thursday. The Cortland siblings said they have always loved the show and felt they would be good candidates because they are extremely competitive. “I thought [Jack] would be the perfect partner because he is taller, smarter and stronger than me,” Kate said.
