Members of the Plainville Fire District plan to raze the old Plainville Schoolhouse to make room for an addition to the existing firehouse.
During its organizational meeting held Jan. 5, Plainville Fire District members discussed removing the former meeting hall (old Plainville Schoolhouse) and building an addition of Fire Station Number 1, which firemen in attendance were in favor of.
While district members have decided to remove the old schoolhouse to make room for the expansion, the decision is still subject to a referendum and residents will have the opportunity to vote on the issue.
During the meeting, members also elected Don Power the 2010 chairman, appointed Andrew Reeves to fill a vacancy on the board of fire commissioners and discussed purchasing used fire engines to replace older models.
Beginning Jan. 14, the Plainville Board of Fire Commissioners will hold a six-week series of Thursday night workshops at 7 p.m. at Station Number 1 on Route 370 (just west of Plainville Road). Topics of discussion will include updating the meeting hall, operating procedures, training schedules and equipment purchases. The public is encouraged to attend these meetings.
