Mired at 1-4, the Liverpool girls swim team started to feel good again last Wednesday night by going to West Genesee and edging past the Wildcats 94-91.
The Warriors needed a series of high finishes, plus two clutch relay efforts, to overcome the double wins by WG’s Amanda Bingham and Kim Pedrotti — Bingham in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, Pedrotti in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.
Becky Evangelista provided the early highlights, sweeping the sprints as she took the 50 freestyle (26.76 seconds) and added a 100 freestyle victory in 57.28 seconds. She also joined Madison Sestak, Anne Esce and Renee Stromski to win the 200 medley relay in 1:49.75.
Colleen McCarthy produced the crucial points. First, McCarthy won the 100 backstroke (1:09.12), and with the meet on the line, McCarthy, along with Stromski, Esce and Ashley Zemotel, claimed the 400 freestyle relay in 4:06.05.
