Will ESF save Carpenter’s Brook?

Among the rumors circulating about the fate of Carpenter’s Brook Fish Hatchery, one has named SUNY ESF as a possible savior for the facility, which may face closing if the county cannot come up with an extra $500,000 in the 2010 budget.

But Claire B. Dunn, director of communications at ESF, said there are no definite plans for the college to take over the hatchery if the county cuts it lose. Yet.

“But because the college has been a partner of the hatchery at various times the college is willing to contribute to any kind of partnership that could help the county keep the hatchery operating,” Dunn said.

She said County Executive Joanne Mahoney, in a letter reaching out to residents for input on how to save the hatchery, mentioned the college as a possible solution.
